January 11, 2010
(Winnipeg) – Manitoba communities are improving for families and workers with the Government of Canada’s investment into recreation infrastructure, says the Honourable Steven Fletcher, Member of Parliament for Charleswood-St. James-Assiniboia.

“Our government is investing over a two-year period, $500 million across Canada in recreational facilities through the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program,” said Fletcher. “Manitoba is seeing improvements, expansions and upgrades to recreational infrastructure from the RInC program.”

In Manitoba, 122 RInC projects have been approved. Hundreds of thousands of dollars have already been invested into projects in Charleswood-St. James-Assiniboia including the Kirkfield Westwood Community Centre, St. James Rods Football Club, and the Charleswood Curling Club. Additional projects will be announced in the future.

“As we continue to invest to build our communities, we are also creating and protecting jobs through this program,” said Fletcher. “Our government will continue to support workers and communities through economic recovery.”
