More skills training available for Manitoba workers
January 20, 2010
(Winnipeg) – Manitoba Workers are benefitting from enhanced skills training thanks to Canada’s Economic Action Plan says The Honourable Steven Fletcher, Member of Parliament for Charleswood-St. James-Assiniboia. “Our government has made unprecedented investments in skills training to ensure Canada has a strong and skilled labour force ready to tackle the jobs of tomorrow,” said Fletcher. “Workers in Manitoba and across the country now have training available that will help them transition into new jobs and develop skills.” The Government of Canada’s additional $1.5 billion investment in skills training through the Economic Action Plan has helped 150,000 Canadians. This investment is in addition to the $2.8 billion that has already been provided to provinces and territories. Canada’s Government has also invested an additional $60 million through the Targeted Initiative for Older Workers to help older workers. This initiative has helped 2,000 older workers access skills training so they can re-enter the workforce. “Our government is ensuring Canadian workers of all ages have skills training and employment assistance available,” said Fletcher. “We will continue to support skills training for workers so Canada can have a highly skilled workforce.” |
