Fletcher welcomes investment in new Joint Strike Fighter F-35 Aircraft

(Winnipeg) - The Government of Canada’s investment in the Joint Strike Fighter program is giving the Canadian Forces needed equipment while creating jobs in Manitoba said the Honourable Steven Fletcher, Member of Parliament for Charleswood-St. James-Assiniboia.

“Today’s announcement is part of our Conservative government’s commitment to give our troops the tools they need to keep Canada safe,” said Fletcher. “The F-35 Joint Strike Fighter will protect our airspace and will play an important part in missions abroad.”

Today, Ministers Peter MacKay, Rona Ambrose, Tony Clement and Parliamentary Secretary Jacques Gourde announced the Government of Canada is investing approximately $9 billion in new Joint Strike Fighter F-35 aircraft. This investment includes acquiring 65 F-35 aircraft and associated weapons, infrastructure, initial spares, training simulators, contingency funds and project operating costs

“This investment will create jobs across Canada including in Manitoba,” said Fletcher.  “Our government will continue to support Canada’s men and women in uniform.”
